In fact, trick or treating could be difficult. While opening the door to trick-or-treaters, however, you could give quite a scare by turning yourself into an ancient bust.

To do this you need to create a cardboard column which fits around your legs, reaching up to just past your elbows. Remember how Greek columns appear, with flat square top and bottom, perhaps some ridges along the sides. Chances are, unless made wide enough, your whole body will not fit into the column, so consider forming it just half way around your body and positioning yourself at the party or your front door where the back side will not be seen. Paint the column white, then select a medium from which you were created: bronze or marble perhaps. This will mean selecting a suitable color of top, draped tunic-style over your shoulders, and painting your face bronze or white. Go complete still, then come to life and scare people.

Another twist on the Greek theme involves your whole body. Few costumes could be easier. Create a loose, long gown with gathers at the shoulders from a long sheet or very large t-shirt if you are a child. Adults will have to stick with a large piece of material or a sheet. In either instance, make sure the fabric is white. To adapt your large piece of fabric, cut a hole at the half-way point. Your gathers will hide any mistakes.

Next, buy or make sandals to lace in criss-cross fashion up to below the knee, also in white. Female hair-styles can be braided and tucked close to the scalp, or caught up high with tendrils dangling prettily. Portray Caesar with a crown made from foliage circling at the temples.

Perhaps the most popular statue portrayed at costume parties and Halloween is The Statue of Liberty. The obvious theme here is green. Use a similar style of gown to that of the Greek statue.

You want the lace up sandals, again in green. Accessories for this costume include a flame to hold in one hand and a crown, both green. For the crown, use a hair band in the appropriate color or cover it with fabric or construction paper. From here tape, glue or staple seven long points made from foam or construction paper to stick up and out in an arc. The torch can be made from construction paper or cardboard shaped into a cone with orange tissue paper coming out the centre representing flames.

With these tips I’m sure you now can figure out the best look for your statue costume this Halloween. I’m sure it will do a great impact on your family and friends.
